Here is a list of helpful resources that you, as a freelance writer, can use to help build your own freelance writing business. These services have been extremely helpful to me as I have grown my business.

Tools for Building a Website
Bluehost — The first thing you will need as a freelance writer is a website or a blog. You can purchase your domain name and purchase the best hosting services through Bluehost. If you would like to search for a domain name right now, enter your domain name idea into the following box. My recommendation is to use your name as your domain name in order to foster your own personal brand, but you can choose whatever suits you best.

Picking a Website Theme
Free themes from Wordpress — If you are just starting out and don’t have a lot of money to invest in a custom theme, then you can choose from one of the many free WordPress themes. WordPress is the best platform for blogging these days.
StudioPress Themes— If you are looking for a more intuitive theme with more customizable and better SEO options, then one of the StudioPress Themes is the way to go. I personally use the Genesis Framework. I like its simple format and clean look.
Online WordPress Classes – WordPress definitely has a small learning curve. If you like to figure things out by yourself, go for it. There are plenty of free online tutorials. If you would rather save the time, and figure it all out quickly, I would recommend taking an online WordPress class like this one. It will save you a lot of time and frustration in the long run and is worth it!

Best Plagiarism Checker & Proofreader – If you don’t have an editor, I highly recommend using this automated editor. No matter how great of an eye you have, you will always miss something. I had a client freak out on me once, because I missed the tiniest of errors, and it was embarrassing. Not good. This will help you prevent that from ever happening. Trust me. You want to prevent that from ever happening. This is also good if you plan on hiring other people to help you with content projects. You need a way to make sure they are not plagiarizing. It’s just worth it.
Tools for Social Media (post promotion)
HootSuite Pro – Hootsuite will save you TONS of time on social media. Basically, you can schedule out all of your posts in an hour at the beginning of the week, and then not think about it the rest of the week. Set it and forget it.
